Today, we slept until we felt like getting up (which is ALWAYS a GOOD THING!).  We decided to drive out to Meteor Crater near Winslow, AZ and then stop at Walnut Canyon National Monument on the way back.

We did the guided tour at the crater (it was free so why not?)  We had a great guide who filled us in on a lot of the history of the crater.  It is privately owned but VERY nice and even has a SUBWAY in the main building.  SWEET!

The welcome wagon beside the road on the way in....lots of "free range" cattle to watch out for.

This stuff left at the bottom of the crater after they mined it.  We couldn't really see what it was without the big (HEAVY) lens on the camera.

Fossil of a shell found at the site.  At one time, the entire area was covered by an ocean.

Fossil of a sea worm

This is a pile of stuff left behind by the miners.  I know you would love the teapot in front Tammy, but, this IS a National Park and I'm not sure how I'd like living in a Federal Prison so I left it there.

  1. I remember when we were at Meteor Crater in '94. It was REALLY windy!! Was it windy when you were there?
