We left Eugene, feeling like it was very surreal that we were FINALLY on the road.
We had an uneventful trip up I-5 to Castle Rock, WA. I was feeling very good that I was able to back up the pick-up to the RV like a PRO and even drove through the Portland, OR freeway maze without breaking a sweat. I should have remembered that pride goes before a FALL!
We are staying at the Mt. St. Helen RV park which is terraced onto a hillside. All went well until we made a mistake getting the hitch separated and we watched, in HORROR, as our RV slid in the gravel toward a 40 drop over a hillside. It stopped short, much to our GREAT relief and we learned a valuable lesson we won't be forgetting anytime soon with no more damage than rapid heart-rates and a few more gray hairs.
OMG, can you imagine, standing there, watching your RV slide over a hill with a 40 foot drop on your very first night of your full-time traveling?!!
After my heart-rate turned to normal, I really could see the funny side of it! (I've been told more than once I have a very warped sense of humor)
We decided to extend our stay here and make tomorrow a "rest" day or a "mental health" day, either of which would work for us!
Hope you all are HIGHLY insured, if you are going to be giving yourselves heart attacks like that!!!!
